2006 FHD Fantasy Football Expert Awards

These guys stepped up and delivered quality fantasy football predictions when it counted. Honor them.

FHD 2006 Fantasy Expert of the Year
David Dodds - Football Guys
(www.footballguys.com)
David had the 2nd best overall FHD Expert Accuracy Score* (EAS) of 68.9%, and the highest EAS for projecting the performance of "bench" players (e.g. sleepers).  But most impressively, he did it while making 1,350 quality projections – more than any other expert tracked by FHD.
Honorable Mention
Vinnie Iyer – Sporting News Fantasy Source (http://fantasysource.sportingnews.com)
Although Vinnie did not make as many quality projections as many other experts, when he did he was money.  Vinnie had the highest EAS of all experts tracked by FHD - 73.0%.  Moreover, Vinnie had the highest EAS when projecting the performance of Value players – an astounding 82.5%.
Honorable Mention
NFL Freaks – Player Performance Projections (http://www.nflfreaks.com/index.htm)
NFL Freaks had the 3rd best overall FHD EAS (68.0%) and one of the highest EAS rankings for Value players (69.0%) while making over 330 quality picks.

*The FHD EAS is an indication of how often a fantasy expert is essentially correct on ‘qualified’ projections – picks that matter most to fantasy football players.

FHD 2006 Good Call of the Year
SI.com Start Sit, Week 4 - Start Thomas Jones
(
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com)
"Sure, Jones has his work cut out for him against Seattle, third in the league against the run. But little things add up in his favor: Cedric Benson, once a threat for playing time, has all but disappeared; he had no touches in Week 3. And TE Desmond Clark's injury elevates Jones's chances for a red-zone look."

This was an outstanding call by SI.com with top-notch analysis. They clearly had their 'Jones' going on. Jones was struggling, getting 63, 64, and 54 yards and no TDs in weeks 1, 2, and 3. And weeks 1 and 2 were against Detroit and Green Bay. So to suggest Jones would have a stud day against the Seahawks was a gutsy call, and nobody else FHD tracks made that call. Jones put up 98 yards and 2 TDs on 24 carries against that tough Seahawk D. SI won the Week 4 Good Call running away!
Honorable Mention
Ask the Commish Sit or Start, Week 3 - Sit Tiki Barber, RB, NYG
(http://www.askthecommish.com)
"If he's on your roster you probably have to start him. However, there are some risks to be aware of. First, although he doesn't officially appear on the injury report, Tiki is nursing a couple of nagging injuries (knee and arm). Moreover, he's playing against a tough Seattle defense that is only allowing 51.5 rushing yards per contest and hasn't given up a single rushing TD."

Excellent analysis by Ask the Commish. It's hard to even suggest not starting Tiki, but Ask the Commish was the only expert FHD tracked that went against the grain, and they got it right. Tiki had only 14 carries for 64 yards and no TDs. Great call by Ask the Commish!
Honorable Mention
Brad Evans - Yahoo Sports - Start Ron Dayne - RB, Houston
(http://fantasysports.yahoo.com)
"Big Daddy" Dayne is set to run, or eat, his way through the Titans in Week 14. Overall, the Titans have improved defensively, but continue to be handicapped by a questionable run defense. Since Week 11, they have given up 122.3 yards-per-game and the 10th-most fantasy points to backs. Houston head coach Gary Kubiak insists Wali Lundy is still the starter, but noted Dayne is his second-half back after he hammered his way to four fourth quarter runs of 10-plus yards against the Raiders last week. Ultimately, Dayne's value is in-game dependent, which means he's a huge risk. However, Houston played well in Tennessee in Week 7, totaling 26 rush attempts and 22 offensive points. If Houston can keep it close, which I think is very possible, Dayne will exceed 15 or more carries and post serviceable flex numbers.

Well, Brad gets the "Good Call of The Week" yet again! Of all the experts FHD tracks, Brad was the only one to see this matchup and tell "Big Daddy" Ron Dayne owners to start him. If you followed Brad's advice, you racked up 87 yards and 2 TD's - lots of fantasy points. Great call Brad!  We here at FHD are starting to develop a man crush on Brad!
