FHD Fantasy Football Expert Rankings

How good is your Fantasy Football Expert?  Fantasy Hound Dog is the only place you can find out.  We sniff out the facts and rank and analyze the fantasy football experts.

Expert Predictions - does anyone ever check?
Over the last few years, as we at FHD tried to dominate our fantasy football leagues (and we all want to dominate, don't we?), we found ourselves often asking (usually after getting killed in a game because we played the guy recommended by an ffl expert), which experts really know what they're talking about?  Are some better than others overall?  Does anybody ever go back and check?

We decided that it was time to answer these questions, and that's what FHD Fantasy Expert Rankings are about.  Put simply, FHD Fantasy Expert Rankings are something like the Consumer ReportsTM  of the fantasy football expert industry.  It's a way for fantasy footballers everywhere to get information on the actual performance of fantasy football experts, and then decide where they find the most value.

Expert advice is everywhere
Fantasy football is exploding, and for good reason.  It's a blast!  It's everywhere.  When an NFL trade is made, the fantasy implications are discussed as much (if not more) than the impact on the teams themselves.  Media outlets, including TV, are heavily factoring fantasy football into their coverage.  But as fantasy football explodes, so does the number of fantasy experts.  Fantasy expert advice is everywhere, in every media stream.  And like anything else, there's some good and some not so good.  So, like Consumer ReportsTM, FHD provides fact-based information to help sort it out.  So you can make the most of the time and money you have as you dominate your league.

Facts are Stubborn Things
Fantasy Hound Dog Expert Rankings works on the premise that, as John Adams himself said, "facts are stubborn things."  On a weekly basis, FHD compares what fantasy experts projected to what actually happened, and use those facts to determine how often the experts are essentially correct.  The results are displayed in a graph that lets you see how experts stack up.  The graph is interactive, so you can drill down to see prediction summaries and player performance data.  You can also utilize the FHD Control Panel to filter rankings by week, position, prediction type, expert type, and more.

High Value Predictions
We also apply techniques to ensure that experts are ranked on those predictions that offer the highest value to fantasy footballers.  Let's face it - you don't need to be told to play LaDainian Tomlinson or Peyton Manning.  And you don't need to be told to sit the 3rd string running back for the Detroit Lions.  So experts don't get credit for these kinds of picks on FHD.  There are players that you play or sit no matter what.  But fantasy football games and leagues are won or lost by those players in- between - what FHD calls value playersFantasy football experts who do well on predicting the performance of value players rank the highest on FHD.

It's not easy being a real expert
But let us also point out what FHD is not.  It's not a mechanism to point out failure.  Let's face it, predicting the performance of NFL players from week to week, or sports in general, is not an exact science.  Things happen - it doesn't turn out like we think - that's why they play the games, as the saying goes.  So we recognize that even experts aren't going to get it right all the time and it's not the purpose of FHD to point that out.

But that said, if a person or organization holds themselves out as an expert and provides advice (and even asks you to pay for it), there is a reasonable expectation that they have special knowledge, and are investing extra resources (the time and money you don't have), to figure it all out and do a better job than most at predicting performance.  And for the most part, they do.  And in fact, some are indeed better than others.

And some are real good
In addition to helping you figure all this out and identify the not-so-good experts, FHD highlights exceptional performance, and even rewards it with the Weekly FHD Top 10.  The Top 10 Fantasy Experts are provided a special logo to put on their site recognizing their performance.  And at the end of the year, we hand out the Annual FHD Expert Awards (click here for the 2006 Awards).

More than just advice
We want to make one last point here.  FHD ranks fantasy football experts on their player projections.  But it needs to be said that many of the expert sites provide much more than than player projections.  So when choosing a fantasy expert, make sure to consider the other benefits they offer in addition to how well they project player performance.  Doing t his, you can find the best value and the best fit for your fantasy football expert needs, and that's what the FHD Fantasy Expert Rankings are really all about.
